In 1985 our client was established in Birmingham, UK as the EMEA headquarters for the parent company providing initially Marketing, Sales and Sales Support activities. In 1996 they moved to a specially developed facility in Birmingham and commenced manufacturing operations enabling the majority of products sold across EMEA to also be manufactured locally.

Today the business in Birmingham is still the centre of all EMEA operations but since its creation a further 9 sales / support offices have been opened across EMEA to enable local support to be provided to a growing customer base.

The organisation has ambitious growth targets and to facilitate transformation of this vision to there is a requirement to add product line Business Managers to the team.

Based in Birmingham the requirement is to manage the Quality Control Solution business across EMEA. Key to the role is effective development, implementation and maintenance of the business plan to grow the Quality Control Solutions business in line with corporate growth, turnover and profitability objectives.

This is a customer facing role with full P&L responsibility and an overseas travel expectation of approximately 35% of time.

The position reports to the General Manager - Product Marketing.

Functions which will be integral to success include:

  • In depth and up to date knowledge of the Quality Control Solutions offered largely to the food sector across EMEA
  • Competitive product positioning
  • Derivation of associated pricing strategies
  • Equipping the local sales forces with the knowledge and tools to value sell incorporating
  • Development and implementation of effective new product launch plans
  • Liaison with Group HQ to ensure that new product developments are aligned with EMEA market requirements
  • Championing the business by coordinating associated engineering, production, sales and marketing.
  • Training of the sales organisation and integration with the sales business is a key success factor.

Knowledge / Experience / Skills needed

  • Degree level education is the minimum requirement (likely to include Engineering / Technical content), ideally this will be supported by a post graduate business qualification
  • A proven track record of success with a B2B technically oriented product
  • Strong marketing, business and technical ability
  • An in depth knowledge Food Manufacturers and/or Food Packing systems would be an advantage
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills (to integrate sales, marketing and R&D)
  • Top class negotiation skills and a real team player/coordinator/leader
  • Languages a definite plus
  • The ability to relate to customers across all levels of their organisation
  • A positive and progressive attitude towards the company striving constantly to improve processes and performance utilising coaching skills to encourage best performance
  • Strong interpersonal skills which allows the effective management of company resources without necessarily having the direct authority over such resources
  • Self motivated
  • Good time management and planning skills
  • IT literate, comfortable using a laptop computer for presentations
