This site was created by Northstar, a web design company based in Leeds, West Yorkshire.

All our sites are built from scratch - we don't use templates - because we believe that every client has individual needs that require a unique solution.

Naturally, all pages are built to the highest international standards and are independently tested and approved by W3C for valid markup.

Accessibility is also a legal requirement under the Disability Discrimination Act - our sites meet WAI Triple A compliance.

Northstar has specialized in search engine optimisation (SEO) for 10 years, from the actual website's page design, writing keyword rich copy, submitting to all the relevant search engines and a comprehensive range of link building services.

Access keys allow people to navigate the site - without using their mouse. Windows users can navigate with the accesskey feature by typing ALT+Accesskey. On the Mac, you would use CTRL+Accesskey (not COMMAND+Accesskey, which can produce undesired effects). Internet Explorer users may also need to hit the “enter” key to activate a link.

"Alt text" has been applied to all images, while the layout has been devised to be intuitive for people with screen readers, while high contrast text has been used to help the visually impaired.

Articles on the site are written in plain English in order that people of all ages and abilities can easily read amd understand the content.

Web browser compatibility

The design has been tested on Microsoft Windows and Mac OSX operating systems, and then sub tested on a range of browsers in each class.

These include: Internet Explorer (7.0, 8.0, 9.0), Firefox (2.0, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0), Chrome (2.0, 3.0, 9.0), Opera (11.1, 9.8, 9.63). These tests cover over 98% of the market - other non-compliant browsers are no longer supported.

Technical specifications

The markup has been written in accordance to the W3C’s Extensible HyperText Markup Language (Second Edition) Version 1.0 which was revised in August 2002.

The CSS markup was written is accordance to 2.1 standards – (CSS3 isn’t supported at the moment, but will be revised when it is compatible with over 90% of the market).

Screen resolution

The site was designed to have a maximum width of 960 pixels which comfortably fits into over 98% of all screen resolutions. It's a pragmatic choice, as the vast majority of browsers are operating at 1024 x 768 pixels or considerably higher.

A few years ago the standard resolution was 800 x 600 pixels, and there are still a few knocking around, however it is unlikely that the Head of HR in major company would be using such outdated hardwear - so this tiny minority has been ingnored.

This assumption has been vindicated over the past year, by studying the Google Analytics, with no visitors to the site using 800 pixel width resolution monitors.
