European Sales Director – Flexible Plastic Food Packaging, based Benelux

The company

A US owned manufacturer of flexible plastic packaging for use within food, medical and non-food sectors.

What did they need?

The existing incumbent was leaving the company after 10 years and was working a 4 month notice period. We required a candidate to take control of the European sales and business development strategy – 15 sales offices, 6 manufacturing sites and a sales t/o c€350mill.

The candidate would be an experience sales manager with an in depth understanding of the global packaging industry and in particular the key factors influencing buying patterns within the food industry in Europe.

They would be a strong and inspirational leader able to manage and motivate a sales team ranging in experience, ability and location. They would also be able to take the company into new territories and new market sectors increasing market penetration throughout central and Eastern Europe.

What could FRL offer?

We had recruited Sales Managers for the existing incumbent and knew the company well combined with our knowledge of the key players operating within the European packaging materials market place this made us an ideal partner to recruit this important role.

It was agreed that the candidate we were looking for would probably be working for the competition. We needed to take time to identify who would best fit the role now and would be able to take the company forward over the next 5-10 years.

The Result

4 years on the company have increased market share in existing territories, they have established growing businesses in new territories, they have developed new products for non-food applications, they are recognised as 1 of the main players in Europe and continue to be a desirable employer within the industry.
