Area Sales Manager – Packaging Machinery, based Cape Town RSA

The company

A world leading manufacturer of single machines and complete turnkey packing lines for use in all areas of the food industry.

What did they need?

South Africa was an increasingly important market for the company and one that had great growth potential. The company had been active in the region for many years selling through an agent and had recently established a sales and service office in Jo’burg selling direct to end users, predominantly snack foods, cereals and confectionary processors

The brief was to recruit an additional sales person ideally based in Cape Town with a proven track record in the sales of high value packaging or processing equipment/solutions into the food industry ideally with experience of the fresh food sector – meat, poultry, seafood and ready meals.

What could FRL offer?

Having recruited various roles in several territories over the last 5 years we know the company well, we understood the culture, the strategy and how the company had evolved.

The first stage was to identify all of the companies in South Africa active in the supply of packaging/processing machinery for use within the food industry.

The second stage was to understand the structure of the sales operations within these companies and identify the most appropriate candidates.

Once this was complete we were in a position to start making a discreet approach to specific individuals to assess interest and suitability for the role.

Fidelis were able to present a shortlist of 9 candidates for 1st interview with 3 progressing to 2nd interview.

The Result

A decision was made and the chosen candidate was delighted with the offer, the assignment was conducted in 5 weeks from sign off to offer and 2 years on the candidate has exceeded expectations.

As a result of the work we were able to offer an insight into the structure and capabilities of competitors in the region and the salary packages available.
